CC Daily News - A DELICIOUS MEMOIR PENNED BY THE FOUNDERS OF CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE WILL BE PUBLISHED BY ST. MARTIN'S PRESS/THOMAS DUNNE BOOKS. PUB DATE: Valentine's Day 2011.
In 2007 we lost our lease at our previous location, a place we called home for a quarter century. It was an idyllic world of chocolate and chat. Talk about a heartbreaking moment as we pondered our 'middle aged' futures - we were no longer the 'girls' who broke DC ground with the first independent gourmet chocolate shop in 1984. When we opened Chocolate Chocolate, we had no business sense, just a love of chocolate and a desire to keep our family together after our father's untimely death. Now all grown up, we had to make a vital decision whether to close up shop forever OR find another location for our beloved Chocolate Chocolate. As you all know, we chose the latter and found a gem of a spot.
While in the midst of our move, we grew very nostalgic, recalling customers from twenty years ago. Many have moved away yet remain alive in our memories. Fortunately, many of our early customers still pop in and have become good friends. One such friend coined us the "Cheers of Chocolate". Ah... the magic of chocolate; it makes everyone feel warm and fuzzy inside. Since we're both authors AND chocoholics, over the years countless customers have asked us: OK, you two, when are you going to write a chocolate book? A great idea, but with every great book comes inspiration. That inspiration came when we lost our lease and moved to our new location. We have some stories to tell - some sentimental, others just plain old hilarious - all delicious. See our publisher's announcement in Publishers Lunch below.

CC question of the week: How many chocolate bars will you eat in a lifetime?
Answer: The magic number is 10,000! That might sound like a lot, but frankly, we at CC think that number is a little conservative. After all, to true chocoholics, chocolate is a daily pick-me-up, the fourth meal, the only dessert. So let's recalculate the numbers. If you were a confirmed chocoholic at age 21, and you're so lucky to live to a ripe old age of say 85 (and of course you will because we all know how good chocolate is for mind, body, & spirit!), then your number would grow significantly to... drum roll... 23,360! Of course, this number is based on a chocolate bar a day. But who stops at one a day?! The CC team could easily double that number!
What is a CC staff favorite?
Answer: Koomo - the most popular chocolate bartender in town - has many loves. Like his women, he's fickle about his chocolate. When he's feeling nutty, he goes for the Cashew Turtles (milk chocolate, gooey caramel, & studded with cashews or a giant Coconut Baron bar (shredded coconut topped with two almonds & enrobed in deep, dark chocolate). When the purest in him comes out, only the pure 70% Origin truffle will do (all dark, & more dark). When it's a serious chocolate day, he goes all out with the Caprice (creme fraiche enrobed in a thin layer of toffee & covered in dark Belgian chocolate & the Dark Almond Bark (dark slabs of chocolate studded with toasted almonds).
